Piirakkakerho “Pie Club” is a group of female artists founded in 2006 when all the members were still students at the Academy of Fine Arts’ sculpture department. We started getting together in our homes baking pies. The idea of the Pie Club came from whose evenings. We organise multifaceted community art events and interventions. The events challenge the myth of a lonely, hardworking (male) artist by creating spaces to meet other people and spicing the atmosphere with warm humour. The events aim to mix the roles of artists and viewers and blur the borders between arts. The common theme of the happenings is food offered and eaten together. We have held events in traditional galleries and art museums as well as in park festivals, a youth centre, a shopping mall and a railway station.
