Olinpaikka 2008

My first solo exhibition was during my study years in the gallery of the Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki, 2008. There were five installations, three of them filling their own room and two smaller ones were attached to the wall and the ceiling. I didn`t give names to the art works, but the name of the exhibition, A place to stay, brings about the idea of the instaaltions: an art work is a place, where a person enters, walkes, stays. An installtions can also be an interpretation of beeing in world in one specific moment, in one specific place.

Work 1.

One can walk inside the installation searching for the way: the metal gates open only, if one walkes to them from the right direction. For the installations I had measured there opening metal gates of the markets. The work is a survival game for the city people.

Work 4.

For this work I drew a vaulted space in Suomenlinna stonewall as a drawing with several parts on pleksiglass. Inside the contruction I made, each drawing has its own halogen light. The lights cast the drawings on the gallery walls. This way the room in Suomenlinna sea fortress moves into the gallery space.

Work 5.

In the ceiling of the darkened room there is a structure, wich visible part reminds sewer system`s concrete cylinder. When looking in one can see the sewer systems gridiron, and light shines from above. The work has the sound of water running in the sewer system. The viewer has moved under the ground.
